Vintage Bonnaz Work Room Cabinet Card

Hey y'all,

Here is a cool image I wanted to share with you all.
This is an occupational cabinet card I scored recently.

I dont know much about the history of the image but I can pass along a few observations an inferences.

The photograph shipped from Union City, NJ. which leads me to believe this is the general area where the photograph was taken. NYC, Jersey City, and Long Island were all once densely bound with Bonnaz Embroidery work rooms.

I noticed that the employees are mostly men who look to be middle age or older, and the style of clothing looks to be about 1940s. So my guess is that this photograph was taken during WWII.

A few of my favorite details

  • The machine operator who looks like Robert DeNiro
  • The oldschool "Trough" style industrial table
  • All the machines are exactly the same and have the same lamps
  • Only one woman visible in the image (I think theres another behind Robert DeNiro)
  • Cigarette burn marks on the edges of the table
